Dr Mumbo

The ‘magic’ of the Marina Bay Sands shopping centre

What happens when you take one of Asia’s most spectacular buildings and one of Singapore’s biggest names in theatre, and put them together in order to make a promo film?

A truly jaw-dropping experience, that’s what.

The theatrical name in question is Gaurav Kripalani, an impresario and the soon-to-be director of Singapore International Festival of Arts (Sifa).

He’s a man with much theatrical flair, so it’s no wonder he was handed a role in a new ad – the agency behind it has yet to reveal itself – designed to inject some drama into the Marina Bay Sands shopping centre. Stop yawning at the back there.

So here is said ad in all its glory:

And here’s Gaurav’s tale of joy: “There’s an energy to the shops that I absolutely love,” he says.

At this point, Dr Mumbo was already on the verge of tears. Just feel the emotion in his voice readers. And the drama doesn’t stop there.

“There’s such an amazing selection of restaurants. It gives me tonnes of options when I’m entertaining,” he adds. You can’t fail to be moved by the sentiment folks.

Tonnes of options

“I come here to watch shows regularly. I come out at 10pm at night and the place is still buzzing.” Yep, the MBS shopping centre at 10pm is a regular hornet’s nest Gaurav. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

“I can pick up a gift for someone at 10.30pm at night, which you can’t do anywhere else.” Anywhere else? Have you ever tried Chinatown or Little India, Gaurav?

Just for the night owls: you can buy a gift as late as 10.30pm

“It fits my life perfectly.”

Honestly Gaurav, it’s the same for Dr Mumbo. In fact, he is thinking of just living at MBS so that he never has to leave this magical place. It’s a veritable palace of fun. A place where dreams become reality. Oh and don’t forget, you can even buy a gift at 10.30pm. Life don’t get much better than that.
