Dr Mumbo

Welcome to the Tech in Asia conference: Please take a seat members of the press (or not)

The Tech in Asia two-day conference has been lauded as one of the annual highlights of the start-up scene in Singapore, so Dr Mumbo decided to go check it out today. More than 5,000 people will attend say organisers and some 264 firms are exhibiting. Impressive numbers.

So gearing up to do some on-the-ground reporting on the latest groundbreaking innovations, including the presentations from a dedicated ‘Marketing Stage’, he grabbed his lanyard and made his way through the Suntec City Conference Centre – ready to set up shop in the press room.

And that’s where he came somewhat unstuck. This is what the conference organisers had in mind for hacks. No chairs, no information and no clue it would seem. Dr Mumbo wasn’t expecting artisanal coffee and croissants, but come on TIA…

The scene which greeted Dr Mumbo at 9.15am today

When Dr Mumbo asked if chairs might be arriving soon, the staff said they were temporary workers and weren’t sure. OK, while waiting for somewhere to sit his grumpy arse down Dr Mumbo just focused on enjoying the picket fence. It’s a glamorous life we lead readers.
